A Touch of Kidepo Valley National Park – 6 Days Self Drive Tour

Are you hoping to visit Kidepo valley national park in Uganda? In this article, we are going to help you plan a 6 days self drive Uganda road trip to Kidepo valley national park. This trip takes you to the northern side of the country through Mount Elgon East Africa’s highest mountain and 8th highest in Africa standing at an altitude of 4321 meters and features the biggest volcanic base in the whole world approximately 4000 sq. km with the biggest caldera in the world about 42 square kilometers.


The tour also features hiking through the Sipi falls, game viewing in Kidepo and a big five encounter at Murchison falls and chips at Budongo Forest Reserve.

Details of the tour

Day 1: Departure from Kampala to Sipi Area and hike to the Sipi falls

After your breakfast early in the morning, you will drive to the East of Uganda to Sipi Area and once you arrive, you will hike to the Sipi falls while catching a glimpse at the magnificent views of the surrounding areas. You will later check-in at your preferred hotel or accommodation. You can either book with Sipi River Lodge, Moses Campsite, Lacam Lodge, or Crow’s Nest Camp Site.

Day 2: Departure to Kidepo Valley National Park

Have breakfast early in the morning and head to Kidepo valley national parkfuganda enjoying stunning views of landscapes of Nakapiripirit, Moroto, Kotido as you drive through that countryside. Spectacular views of Mount Moroto before reaching Kaboong and Kidepo for dinner and night stay at Apoka Safari Lodge (high end), Nga’ Moru Wilderness Camp, Kidepo Savannah Lodge, or Apoka Rest Camp.

Day 3: Wildlife viewing

After morning breakfast, set off for the morning game drive to spot your favorite wildlife including zebras, waterbucks, elephants, and lions among others. Kidepo Valley National Park offers refuge to over 86 species of mammals, 463 bird species, and many other wilderness species. After the game drive, you return to the lodge of your choice for dinner and a night stay at Apoka Safari Lodge, Nga’ Moru Wilderness Camp, Kidepo Savannah Lodge, or Apoka Resort Camp. If time allows, we can spend the rest of the day visiting the Ik endangered tribe found in Morungole Mountains.

Day 4: Game drive to ostriches

You will be escorted by a park ranger on this day who brings us to Uganda’s border with Sudan. We hope to see Ostriches cross a dry river and stop at the hot springs. In the late afternoon, you will enjoy the peace and beauty of the park, viewed from the campsite with a book, or go for another game drive.

Day 5: Drive to Gulu

Drive for some hours to Gulu via the rough, sooty, so get ready for the “African Massage!” This drive takes you about 7 hours as you enjoy the communities you will drive through before reaching Gulu town.

Day 6: Drive back to Kampala

On this day you head back to Kampala or continue to Entebbe for your flight home.
