Mogadishu

Mogadishu is the capital of Somalia and an important transport hub for the country. It is home to the key international airport though flights rarely operate from here.

The port of Mogadishu is also one of the busiest along the country’s coastline. Mogadishu has always been at the center of some of the heaviest clashes in more than four decades of armed conflict in the country.

Militia factions have controlled sections of the city in recent times and the newly formed transitional government is yet to relocate here. During the short lived period of peace under President Siyad Barre; the city flourished and was an important centre for trade and commerce. Mogadishu was also home to a thriving university which was the centre for higher learning in the country.
