Lilongwe

Lilongwe is the capital city of Malawi, a status it has held since replacing Zomba in 1974. The city is centrally situated and is also the administrative capital of Lilongwe district. Lilongwe is one of the largest cities in Malawi and is only 2nd to Blantyre. The City was established as a small settlement along the banks of River Lilongwe in the late 1940s. Lilongwe is important as a center for government though its status as a major hub for trade and commerce is rivaled by the City of Blantyre.
