LAST THURSDAY, 148 students were killed when Islamist militants attacked a university in Kenya. The pre-dawn attack was carried out by the Al-Shabab group with at least 79 other people injured in the assault.
Hundreds of protesters defiantly marched in Naoribi today, even if fears of fresh attacks are widespread. Some 200 students slapped vehicles with their hands as they marched through the streets, chanting “you are not safe, you are not safe!” Many students carried placards with the slogan “147 is not just a number”. Their sentiment is echoed by concerns that the international community has been slow to recognise the scale of the slaughter.
To combat this, Kenyans and others have been sharing the names of the deceased and their stories with the hashtag #147NotJustANumber.
You can view the list of names honoring and remembering the victims here. This list includes the names of the Garissa victims (students, staff and police) unfortunately, i am unable to get the counties where the students came from.
